Rideworks Review

A Guaranteed Ride That's Good To
Go When You Are

Many commuters like the idea of taking the train to work, but they’re worried about being stranded without transportation in the case of a family emergency or other unexpected occurrence. For commuters taking the Shore Line East (SLE) Commuter Rail Service between New London, New Haven and west, the availability of the Guaranteed Ride Program makes purchasing a monthly ticket an easy decision.

Why is the Guaranteed Ride Program so important to SLE commuters? Because it gives them peace of mind knowing they will have access to transportation if they become ill at work, a family emergency arises or they need to work late unexpectedly.

On days that the Shore Line East operates (Mondays through Fridays), monthly pass holders who have an emergency and need to get to their cars or other destination can call Rideworks at 1-800-ALL-RIDE between 8:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. Rideworks will make arrangements for a taxi to pick them up at no charge; even the taxi driver's gratuity is paid at no cost to the commuter.

Sean Boardman, a Westbrook resident and three-year Shore Line East rider says, “A great benefit of buying the monthly SLE ticket is [the]Guaranteed Ride Program. I've had to work late into the evening, after the last SLE train of the night had left New Haven. I was able to schedule a guaranteed ride through the Rideworks office before the end of the workday, and I received a free taxi ride back to my car in Westbrook later that night.”

Boardman also recalls when a family emergency occurred during the day. “The taxi was waiting for me at curbside even before I walked out of my building. The guaranteed ride took me directly from my office in New Haven to my car at the Westbrook station in only half an hour. Now that's what I call service.”

The Guaranteed Ride Program is available to Shore Line East monthly ticket holders twice in a calendar year. And while most Shore Line East commuters have never needed to use the Guaranteed Ride Program, it is nice to know it’s available just in case.
