All additional lanes related to the expansion of I-95 in East Haven are now open. This includes I-95 Southbound and I-95 Northbound as well as North Frontage Road, South Frontage Road and North High Street. PLEASE SEE DETAILS BELOW.

Temporary lane closures may still occur during off-peak hours to perform work necessary to complete the project.

Project was awarded in September 2003 to O & G Industries of Torrington, CT; contract is valued at $42 million.

Superficial paving/milling of the existing Pearl Harbor Memorial (Q) Bridge in both directions (a routine maintenance procedure) will be scheduled for Spring 2004.

Widening of I-95 will include three travel lanes in each direction and full inside and outside shoulders between the eastern end of the Lake Saltonstall Bridge and the New Haven/East Haven town line.

Resurfacing and restriping only of the Lake Saltonstall Bridge. No construction will be done on the bridge itself.

Reconstruction and widening of the East Haven Frontage Road system to accommodate additional lanes on I-95. This phase is scheduled to be completed by memorial day weekend.

Replacement of the I-95 bridge over Route 1 Southbound Frontage Rd./Amtrak.

Superstructure replacement and widening on the Laurel Street Bridge and I-95 over North High Street.

Replacement of the Tuttle Brook culvert.

Extension of the Farm River culvert.

Widening of North High Street to accommodate a turning lane onto the I-95 Northbound on-ramp.

Realignment of the Oakley Street/Main Street intersection.

Establishment of a cul-de-sac at Minott Street.

Nighttime work on I-95 near Exit 50 and Exit 51 scheduled for June 25 through July 17 from 9:00p.m. to 6:00a.m. PLEASE SEE DETAILS BELOW.


June 25-June 26 from 9:00p.m.-6:00a.m.: Milling and restriping on I-95 Northbound for three thru lanes a fourth exit-only lane to Exit 50 (Frontage Road). Milling of I-95 Southbound will also be completed with no change in traffic.

July 7-July 10 from 9:00p.m.-6:00a.m.: Final paving of I-95 Northbound.

Week of July 14-July 17 from 9:00p.m.-6:00a.m.: Final paving and striping of I-95 Southbound for the full length of the project. Milling of portions of the roadway is also required. Opening of the new third lane on I-95 Southbound and a temporary I-95 Southbound on-ramp at Exit 50 will also occur. The temporary ramp will merge with I-95 Southbound versus the “lane add” condition provided by the previous ramp.

This will open all available lanes to traffic and place I-95 in final alignment.

Work will occur weather permitting.

Widening of I-95 between the frontage roads and Woodward Avenue with four lanes and full inside and outside shoulders in each direction.

Replacement of the Woodward, Townsend and Forbes Avenue Bridges.

Construction of a new Woodward/Stiles interchange that will be accessible from a connector road originating at Waterfront Street and extending to the Fulton Terrace on-ramp.

Replacement of the Fulton Terrace Bridge.

Installation of a masonry noise wall near Allen Place along the I-95 Northbound off-ramp to Woodward Avenue.

Nighttime closures of I-91 SB off-ramp to I-95 NB, Wooster St. on-ramp to I-95 NB and I-95 NB on-ramp to Route 34 in New Haven Scheduled for June 2 through June 4, 2008. PLEASE SEE DETAILS BELOW.

I-91 and Wooster St. ramp closures will occur from 10:00p.m. to 6:00a.m. Route 34 ramp closure will occur from 12:01a.m. to 6:a.m.

Detour for the Wooster Street on-ramp to I-95 NB: Traveling west on Wooster Street, turn right onto Franklin Street. Turn left onto Chestnut Street. Turn left onto Water Street and follow Water Street to Long Wharf Drive. Turn right at Long Wharf Drive and continue to the I-95 NB on-ramp.

Detour for I-91 Southbound onto I-95 Northbound: Traveling down I-91 Southbound, take the exit for I-95 Southbound, then take Exit 46. Turn right at the end of the ramp onto Sargent Drive. Continue down Sargent Drive to Canal Dock Road. Turn right under the bridge onto Canal Dock Road. At the traffic light, turn right onto Long Wharf Road; continue down Long Wharf Road to the entrance ramp to I-95 Northbound.

Work will occur weather permitting.

Replacement of the Stiles Street Bridge.

The Q-Bridge main span bridge foundations and I-95 Northbound approach structures will be constructed in advance of the new Q-Bridge contract.

The construction will be accomplished 'off line' from I-95 thereby minimizing impacts to interstate traffic.

Foundation construction will include the main river pier foundations for the extradosed cable-stayed portion of the new Q-Bridge.

Approach structures will include the final Route 34 Eastbound, I-91 Southbound and Wooster Street, as well as mainline I-95 Northbound connections to the new Q-Bridge.

The project will also include local road reconstruction including Hamilton Street, East Street and Water Street located on the west shore of the Quinnipiac River and Forbes Avenue and Waterfront Street located on the east shore of the Quinnipiac River. Roadway, drainage, as well as traffic signal improvements are planned.

The contract is valued at $137 million and the work will be performed by a joint venture between Cianbro from Pittsfield, Maine and Middlesex Corporation from Littleton, Massachusetts.

Work on Contract E1 began on Tuesday, December 7, 2004; work includes mobilizing equipment and possible drainage installation. Minimal interference with I-91 and I-95 traffic is anticipated.

Advanced utility work for Contract E1 and Contract C2 is being performed on local roads; periodic impacts to traffic may occur at the following locations between 9:00a.m. and 3:00p.m. on Mondays through Fridays: Woodward Ave. overhead; U.S. Route 1 over I-95; Hoover/Edgemere; Albia St.; East Main St.; East/Chapel/Olive Sts.; Fulton Terrace; Olive/Water/Brewery Sts.; Stiles St.

Work on Contract E has not yet begun.

Existing traffic operations will be maintained on I-95 Northbound and I-95 Southbound on Monday through Thursday between 6AM and 10AM and between 2PM and 6PM; Fridays between 6AM and 7PM; Saturdays between 10AM and 6PM; and Sundays between 12noon and 6PM.

Existing traffic operations will be maintained on I-95 Northbound and I-95 Southbound during all summer weekends (between Memorial Day and Labor Day) beginning 12:01PM on Fridays and ending 12:01AM on Mondays.

Contract E1 has been awarded to L.G. DeFelice of North Haven, Connecticut and is valued at $13.1 million.

Contract E1 includes the advance soil pre-loading construction in 8 different areas within the project zone; it also includes drainage improvements, utility work and driving test piles.

Reconfiguration of the I-95/I-91/Route 34 Interchange in New Haven to accommodate lanes from new Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge and improve interstate-to-interstate travel.

Reconstruction to occur along I-95 between Sargent Drive/Long Wharf Drive and East Street and on I-91 between Ivy Place and Route 34.

Elimination of left-lane on-ramps and off-ramps; two-lane connections will be provided for I-91.

On I-95, construction of three thru travel lanes with full inside and outside shoulders and a new median barrier.

Replacement of 18 bridges, including:

    I-91 over Chapel Street

    I-91 over the Wooster St. on-ramp to I-95 Northbound

    Multiple crossings over Water Street

    Route 34 Westbound over Brewery Street

    I-95 over Canal Dock Road.

Removal of loop ramps near the Sargent Drive/Brewery Street intersection.

Realignment of Sargent Drive between Canal Dock Road and Brewery Street.

Widening of Water Street from East Street to Brewery Street to two lanes in each direction.

Retention of the Wooster Street on-ramp to I-95 Northbound.

Contract E1, in support of Contract E, consists of construction of soil preloading in advance of the roadway and bridge reconstruction in Contract E. Monitoring of the soil settlement and drainage and utility relocations required to complete the soil preloading is included. Contract E1 also includes test piles, pile load tests and vibration and settlement monitoring at the Cowles Building. Test and monitoring data will be used in Contract E.

The I-95 Northbound to Route 34 Westbound 'flyover' bridge will be constructed in advance of the proposed Q-Bridge and I-95/I-91/Route 34 Interchange construction.

The new bridge will improve traffic operations in the area, as well as simplify traffic maintenance during interchange construction.

To accommodate the new ramp, the Route 34 Westbound bridge over Brewery Street will be reconstructed and the Long Wharf Drive ramp at Exit 46 will be relocated approximately 1500 feet to the west.

A second lane will be added between I-91 Southbound and I-95 Southbound. To accommodate the new two-lane interstate-to-interstate connection the Sargent Drive ramp at Exit 46 will be relocated approximately 1500 feet to the west.

    Here is the latest information on each of the three station projects:

    Branford:
    Station Open Effective: August 8, 2005

    The design and construction of the station will allow for the future expansion to up and over facilities
    The new station has 199 parking spaces.

    Guilford:
    Effective: The new Guilford station is now in use, effective Monday, November 28, 2005.
    Station has a high level south side platform.

    Station has 176 parking spaces on the south side.
    On the north side of tracks a pedestrian bridge connects to a drop off area and handicapped parking.
    The design and construction of the station allows for the future expansion to up and over facilities.

    Clinton:
    Start Date: May 24, 2004
    Completion Date: July 25, 2005

    Station has a south side platform.
    The design and construction of the station will allow for the future expansion to up and over facilities.

    Madison:
