Expect nighttime lane closures on I-95 Northbound and I-95 Southbound between Exit 33 and Exit 34.

The project includes resurfacing, bridge deck repairs, upgrades to guide rail and traffic signs, repairs to existing concrete median barrier and repairs to existing drainage crossings. Also included is work on the expansion joints for three I-95 bridges in West Haven over Sawmill Road, Greta Street and Allings Crossing Road, and the installation of a fire protection system extension at the Route 15 Sikorsky Bridge in Milford.

The contract was awarded to Manafort Brothers Inc. of Plainville, CT, on July 14, 2008 at a cost of $31 million.

Traffic delays may occur on the I-95 SB Exit 43 off-ramp, Rte. 122 and the commuter lot at the I-95 NB on-ramp. PLEASE SEE DETAILS BELOW.

Traffic delays may occur as follows:

Interstate 95 Intermittent traffic impacts to the SB exit 43 off-ramp. No interference is permitted on the ramp during rush-hour periods.

Route 122 (First Ave) Lane closures are permitted Monday-Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and weekends from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m.

Commuter Parking Lot at I-95 NB on ramp The project will be utilizing approximately 50% of the Commuter Lot at exit 43 for storage and facilities. A construction access will be built. Motorists should be aware that construction vehicles make frequent stops and may be accessing the storage area from the I-95 NB on ramp.

Rte. 122 (First Ave.) in West Haven
 

Project includes replacement of culvert crossing on Rte. 122 near the Southbound I-95 off-ramp. Upgrades to Regional Water, Southern CT Gas and sewer services will also be performed.

The new culvert will improve area drainage and reduce local flooding experienced during heavy rains.

The contract was awarded on July 31, 2008 to Colossale Concrete Inc. of Berlin, CT, at a cost of $1.1 million.

I-95 Bridge over West River
 

Rebuilding and widening of West River Bridge over the West River, Kimberly Ave. and Ella Grasso Blvd.
Consolidation of Exit 44 and Exit 45 on I-95.

Estimated Start Date -- Week of July 7, 2008
Estimated Completion Date – February 2, 2011


Closure of Fifth Street between Howard Avenue and Hallock Avenue in effect as of February 2, 2009. PLEASE SEE DETAILS BELOW.

The closure will be in effect for approximately two months.

Detour signs will be in place to direct traffic to alternate routes. Local access for area residents will be provided.

Work will occur weather permitting and will be rescheduled, if necessary.

The work is part of the Howard Avenue Bridge Reconstruction Project that will require the installation of a new IMS conduit in the NB right shoulder as well as work in the median and shoulders on I-95.

Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and proceed with caution through this and all other construction work zones.

Reconstuction of Howard Ave. Bridge Over I-95
 

The reconstruction of the Howard Avenue Bridge over I-95 in New Haven is required to accommodate the I-91 Southbound to I-95 Southbound two-lane connection included as part of Contract E2.

The project consists of replacing the Howard Avenue Bridge over I-95, the installation of modular retaining walls along I-95 Northbound and I-95 Southbound between Fifth and Sixth Streets; relocation of a sanitary sewer line under I-95 at Hallock Avenue and Fifth Street; and widening the I-95 Northbound and I-95 Southbound shoulders at the overpass.

Local roadway improvements are also included.

The contract was awarded to Brunalli Construction Company on May 20, 2008 at a cost of $14,193,232


Start Date: December 14, 2006

Estimated Completion Date: November, 2009


Beginning December 14, 2006, daytime lane closures are in effect from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Grand Avenue Bridge will be closed on or about January 2, 2007 with detours until further notice. PLEASE SEE DETAILS BELOW.

Traffic will be detoured as follows beginning January 2, 2007:

Vehicles traveling on State Street or Elm Street, towards Grand Avenue will be detoured north on State Street to east onto Grove Street to south on Olive Street back to Grand Avenue.

Vehicles traveling on Olive Street or Grand Avenue, towards the bridge, will be detoured north on Olive Street, west onto Grove Street, south on State Street back to Grand Avenue.

Artizan Street will be converted to a two-way street between Court Street and the Fire Department. No on-street parking will be allowed on Artizan Street during this period.

Detour signs will be posted and city police will be on hand to assist motorists.

Grand Avenue Bridge
 

Work includes the reconstruction of the Grand Avenue Bridge that carries traffic over the Metro-North Railroad in the City of New Haven.

Project is valued at $7.6 million and was awarded to The Baier Construction Company, Inc, of Bloomfield, CT


Estimated Completion Date: February 5, 2009

Effective Tuesday, September 5, 2006, there may be temporary lane closures on surrounding roads to include East Ferry St. and River St. between 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM Mondays through Fridays. PLEASE SEE DETAILS BELOW. .

An existing detour to the Grand Avenue Bridge will continue to be used until completion of all bridge construction. .

(Repair of Ferry Street Bridge)
 
The entire project involves the removal of existing lead paint and repainting of all structural steel elements, major repair to the bascule spans and all machinery as well as structural repairs to the approach spans. The bridge tender houses will be rehabilitated and the pier fender systems will be replaced.
The work is being performed by Cianbro Corporation of Pittsfield, Maine..

Work on this project has not yet begun.

Route 1 traffic will be maintained throughout the project.
